About the Organization

The Texas EMS, Trauma & Acute Care Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Austin, Texas. TETAF supports development of the state trauma and emergency healthcare system by providing verification surveys for trauma, stroke, neonatal intensive care units and maternal care facilities; legislative advocacy on these and related issues; and trauma, EMS, and perinatal educational opportunities throughout the state. TETAF was founded in 2006 to support the development of the statewide trauma system, and continues to educate state legislators about trauma/emergency healthcare system issues, and participate in the regulatory process on behalf of its stakeholders.

Job Description

The Communications Director will coordinate all communications for the organization. Specific duties include:
  • Work directly with the President/CEO to prepare and distribute all external communication from the organization.
  • Provide timely legislative advocacy communications with the Board, stakeholders and legislators.
  • Maintain up-to-date website and social media accounts.
  • Publish monthly newsletter using MailChimp with special edition releases as needed.
  • Assist in developing and implementing communications on verification survey services.
  • Serve as ambassador and spokesperson for organization as needed.
  • Serve as the main contact for the news media, and work to maintain optimum media relations.
  • Maintain updated distribution/contact lists of stakeholders, media and lawmakers.
  • Maintain trauma and emergency healthcare events calendar.
  • Monitor and/or attend a variety of meetings and hearings as assigned.
  • Coordinate contract services as needed to support written communication and printing needs.
  • Support public education initiatives, including Stop the Bleed Texas.
  • Provide basic design services as needed for handouts and various print needs.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing other tasks and providing administrative support as needed.

Candidate Qualities

Candidate should enjoy providing written and verbal communications and be a good listener. Candidate should be self-motivated and able to work independently with minimum direction/supervision. Prior experience working with health care issues or in a health care setting is preferred. Candidate should be able to work with diverse personalities and maintain a professional demeanor when others are expressing conflicting opinions. Candidate should be comfortable working on multiple issues and projects simultaneously. Being able to produce work on tight deadlines is required because much of TETAF's work is time-sensitive.

Candidate Qualifications

  • Minimum five years communications experience required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required. A writing and editing test will be required of selected candidates.
  • Experience writing press releases and opinion editorials and holding news conferences preferred. •Good organizational skills and attention to detail required.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Must be proficient in working with current social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
  • Proficiency with WordPress and familiarity with website management is required.
  • Knowledge of the legislative and regulatory processes, and of the Texas Legislature, is highly desired.
