MEET PRSA AUSTIN CHAPTER MEMBER: Kelsey Heitzmann

What do you currently do for a living? I am an Account Coordinator at Live Out Loud PR, where I assists with the day-to-day execution of client projects in the biotech, non-profit and consumer spaces. My main responsibilities include social media management, media outreach, analytics and coverage reporting, research, content creation, and event booking. We have a small but mighty team and I love the clients I get to work with each day!

What motivated you to pursue a career in communications? I really enjoy the dynamic environment of working in communications. I wanted something that would keep me on my toes and challenge me every day, and working in PR does that. I am also passionate about helping people and I believe effective communication is the most powerful tool for helping businesses reach their goals.

What was your first job in PR/communications? My first job in communications working for 100.1 Sun Radio as a promotions intern. I helped manage social media accounts, create newsletters, maintain the website, and sell merchandise at the promotions table during events. It was a great introduction into the world of communications. I learned a lot and had a blast doing it.

Where are you from? Where have you lived? I’m not from Texas, but as they say, I got here as fast as I could. I was born and raised in a tiny town in Illinois. I moved to Texas with my family at the end of my senior year of high school. I lived in Victoria, TX for a short time and then left for Texas State in San Marcos, where I got my degree in public relations. I moved to Austin after graduating a little over a year ago and I love everything about it!

How has PRSA Austin contributed to your development as a public relations professional? PRSA has provided the opportunity to network and learn from other professionals across all areas of communications. I especially enjoy the monthly luncheons. The topics are always timely and relevant and the speakers are phenomenal every month.

What are your favorite things to do in Austin? Favorite places to visit? Favorite restaurants?

Going for a jog around Town Lake never gets old. It is beautiful and I love seeing all the different people out and about. I also enjoy exploring new festivals and live music venues.

What do you do in your free time? What are your hobbies/interests outside of work? I haven’t lived in Austin for long, so I spend most of my free time trying new things in the city. Whether it’s a new restaurant or a farmer’s market, I am always up for an adventure.

What is your most memorable experience as a PRSA member? I recently joined the PRSA Board as the Texas State Student Liaison. Getting to be a resource for the students after being in their shoes just a few years ago is an amazing experience.

Fill in the blank: My favorite thing about PRSA Austin is meeting new people
