What do you currently do for a living? I co-own and operate a boutique entertainment PR, Brand & Events company called Fons PR out of Austin, Texas with my partner and husband Ryan Fons.

What motivated you to pursue a career in communications? I was scouted for this path in high school & college by my teachers & professors and ended up falling in love with the idea of representing brands/companies as their spokespeople.

What was your first job in PR/communications? I was a small town girl who wanted to try and make it in the big apple. I moved to New York City straight out of college where I worked for a beauty PR firm called Behrman Communications. I was the PR team assistant working on brands before they grew nationally such as Kiehls, Burts Bees, Deborah Lippmann Nail Collection and more.

Where are you from? Where have you lived? I am from El Paso, Texas. I have also lived in New York City-Manhattan, Los Angeles and Phoenix, Arizona.

How has PRSA Austin contributed to your development as a public relations professional? It has inspired me to strive to be better in the league of my PR colleagues who are every day superheroes in my eyes and to offer my insights in my expertise of film marketing.

What publication/book/blog do you recommend others read (professionally or personally)? I have obsessions in writers and media that fluctuate, currently I am a fan of Refinery 29 & Entertainment Weekly and some fierce female film bloggers that I follow on Collider, indieWIRE, LA Times, Fandango, Bloody Digusting & Vanity Fair.

What are your favorite things to do in Austin? Favorite places to visit? Favorite restaurants? I am in LOVE with Austin. Some of my favorites are...

  • Happy hour: Clark’s on 5th
  • Nail art: @heygirlnails at Swamp Mermaid Beauty
  • New hotel lobby: Native Hostel with my favorite craft Austin beer by Pinthouse Pizza (Electric Jellyfish)
  • Outdoor activities: Deep Eddy & Barton Creek all summer long
  • Place for movies: Alamo Drafthouse

What do you do in your free time? What are your hobbies/interests outside of work? When I am not dreaming about movies I am a momma who loves camping, hiking, swimming, biking & shopping with her daughter and husband and two dogs. I also happen to really like playing Texas Hold 'em Poker so I can be found at a game or two around the year.

What is your most memorable experience as a PRSA member? Being asked to participate in this spotlight to meet more of my esteemed peers.
