September Breakfast with Dell Medical School & UT
Using Big Data Ethically
Event:

Whether we lead communications for a large corporation, a multi-city health care provider, a nonprofit association or are sole practitioners, we have access to massive quantities of personal research data about our audiences and customers.

Our challenge as PR professionals is to separate the chaff from the grain—use the data for actionable insights while protecting peoples’ confidentiality and following strict legal guidelines.

John E. Daigre of Dell Medical School and Mike Mackert, Ph.D., of the Moody College of Communication at UT will discuss how the Dell Medical School approaches big data and privacy. Join us to learn how leaders are managing data to protect patients and grow healthy outcomes.

About John E. Daigre, Executive Director, Communications and External Affairs, Dell Medical School, University of Texas (UT): Daigre manages integrated marketing and communications in academic, nonprofit and corporate environments. He directed communications at the Clinical Translational Science Institute at the University of California-San Francisco with a National Institutes of Health grant for research to improve health. Daigre created the content strategy for launching SugarScience.org, presenting research on sugar’s impact on health. He has a journalism degree from Louisiana State University.

About Mike Mackert, Ph.D., Director, Center of Health Communications, Stan Richards School of Advertising and PR, Moody College of Communication at UT: Dr. Mackert researches strategies used in traditional and new digital media to increase positive engagement and improve healthy behaviors and outcomes. He also investigates cultural and social factors that challenge parents seeking ways to improve their children’s diet and exercise. His results appear widely, including: Health Communications, Journal of Health, Journal of Medical Internet Research, Parent Education and Counseling. He has a Ph.D. in Mass Media and Information Studies from Michigan State University.
