PRSA AUSTIN CHAPTER SEPTEMBER ETHICS BREAKFAST

Event:

Coffee Talk: Ethics & Politics with Pulitzer Prize Winner, Ken Herman

PRSA Austin Chapter invites you to join us on Thursday, Sept. 22 for an intimate breakfast discussion with Ken Herman, Pulitzer Prize winner and Austin American Statesman columnist.

September is Ethics Month, and with a presidential election just around the corner, we’re focusing on the work of political communicators, with an eye toward the PRSA Code of Ethics. Attendees will hear from one of the nation’s top political journalists, Austin’s own Ken Herman, about some of the biggest ethical dilemmas and situations experienced throughout his career covering the campaign trail. Herman is widely known among the Capitol Press Corps as one of the most ethical — and funniest — journalists in Texas. He’ll share tales from a lifetime of covering Texas politicians, both in Austin and in D.C.

Herman has seen it all in his long career, which started at the Lufkin News, where he won the Pulitzer Prize for meritorious public service for an investigative series that led to Congressional hearings and reform of U.S. Marine Corps training and recruiting. Herman then spent 11 years with the Associated Press, working in Dallas, the Rio Grande Valley, and at the Capitol in Austin. He was the Austin bureau chief for the former Houston Post until 1995, and went on to become Capitol bureau chief for the Austin American-Statesman, where he led the paper’s coverage of state government and politics, including George W. Bush’s 2000 presidential campaign. In 2001, Herman moved to Washington, D.C. to cover the Bush administration.
