Event: PRSA Austin Chapter November 2016 Happy Hour
Is it the right time for your APR?

What’s next in my career? Do I really have anything more to learn? How can I distinguish myself from other practitioners? Am I too young to be accredited? If you’ve asked yourself any of these questions, then it might be the right time to think about your career’s next step.

Join the PRSA Austin Chapter on November 17 for a networking happy hour, where we’ll hear from fellow Austin professionals Andrew Tanker, APR of Nutrabold, Jo Detavernier, APR of Manzer Communications, and Alison Castle, crisis communications consultant. In addition to talking about what an Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) means to them and their careers, they’ll share with attendees their experience in the following key areas:

Crisis Communications:
Alison Castle, the former press secretary and communications director for then-governor Perry, recently headlined our Master's Breakfast program to acclaim. She'll provide riveting stories and advice on how she managed crises for the most visible public office in Texas. She’ll also share why she thinks now could be a good time to earn her APR.

Corporate Communications:
Jo Detavernier, APR, VP and partner of Manzer Communications, came to Austin with corporate PR and consulting experience in the U.S. and Belgium. After less than six months in Austin, he earned his accreditation and is assisting others through their APR process. Jo will discuss his unique experience conducting corporate communications, executive media training, and other capabilities overseas in Brussels.

Going through the APR process:
Andrew Tanker, APR, PR manager at Nutrabold, has developed many crucial PR skills in his 10-year career at companies like Livestrong Foundation, the Orange Bowl and the Rose Bowl. Andrew will talk about his process in obtaining his APR and how the program has assisted his career to date.
