PRSA AUSTIN CHAPTER MASTERS CLASS SERIES

Event: Growing Your Business in Austin and Beyond

Growing a business takes guts. And risk. How do you know when to go from making critical need hires to potential need hires? What kind of employees are the best fits for a growing business? When is it the prime time to make that jump from a one-location business to a multi-location business?

These are the types of questions business owners everywhere ask themselves daily. In Austin, the economy is growing fast, and talent is moving here from the four corners of the country and beyond. There are many goals, logistics and risks to consider when growing your business in Austin and expanding beyond our city. Join us for this interactive “PRSA Masters Class” breakfast for senior-level professionals, where you’ll have a chance to share your questions and examples, and speak directly with INK Public Relations President and Co Founder Kari Hernandez to discuss:

  • Do you hire for the business you need or the business you want?
  • How do you strike a balance of working on your business and working in your business?
  • Should you expand your agency focus or specialize deeply in one industry?
  • How to choose the right location and market for your growth outside of Austin?
  • What are the right tools to manage and grow your business?

Kari will speak from her 12-year track record of growing INK from two chicks on a couch doing tech PR to an agency of 24 full-time professionals in offices in Austin and Denver working on a diverse mix of clients and communications services. With a steep growth curve over the last two years, she’s learned a lot of lessons that will hopefully make your growth trajectory a whole lot smoother.

Kari and her co-founder Starr Million Baker founded INK in January of 2004, and that first year brought on the Bluetooth SIG who is still a client today. INK continues to work with top innovators from around the country but today does so in tech, clean energy, social innovation, and CPG markets from offices in Austin and Denver. With a rapidly growing staff of diverse communication talents and backgrounds, INK maintains strong client relationships and a happy culture and was named a best place to work by the ABJ and PR News. Kari is passionate about Austin’s growth and culture and devotes time to the Austin Technology Council, the Capital Factory mentor program, and supports the task force for social innovation in Austin.
