PRSA AUSTIN CHAPTER APR EXAM PREP SESSIONS

Paid street parking is available in the area, or parking is available in the building garage for a fee. 

Please note the following candidate requirements:

  • Must be a member of PRSA or other member organization as designated by the UAB.
  • Must have applied for and received approval from the UAB (includes examination fee). (Application form)
  • Must have paid public relations experience, and although it’s not required, it’s recommended that candidates have 5+ years of full-time employment in the field. Throughout the accreditation process, candidates must prove proficiency in the development and application of the 4-step PR process, and illustrate expert knowledge of the core competencies in which candidates will be tested 

APR EXAM PREP SESSIONS

Once candidates are given an “advance” rating for their Readiness Review panel interview, they have one year to complete the computer-based exam. Candidates have four hours to complete the scenario-based exam.During two half-day sessions, participants will:

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the core competencies that candidates will be tested on; lectures will be delivered by Ryan Sheehy, APR (see below for more information).
  • Review and discuss sample case study scenarios.
  • Review available tools and receive guidance on how to study properly.

ABOUT THE FACILITATOR

With 15 years experience, Ryan Sheehy, APR is the founder of SHEEHY creative, a PR and social engagement consultancy. Beyond building an extraordinary marketing communication career, one of Ryan’s greatest passions is teaching and mentorship. For nine years, she’s taught hundreds of Ad/PR undergraduate students who are now thriving in the field. Currently she’s a lecturer at the Texas State University School of Journalism and Mass Communication where she teaches PR and Digital Media. In 2014, Ryan served on the Board of Directors for the Public Relations Society of America Austin chapter as the director of accreditation and was responsible for leading candidates through the APR process, both as an instructor and adviser.
