2020 PRSA Austin Chapter Election Information

Interested in developing the skills that will elevate you to the next level of your career while also making a difference in your profession? The PRSA Austin Chapter is currently seeking energetic and creative professionals for our 2020 Board of Directors and Committees. 

Serving on the PRSA Austin Chapter Board is great opportunity to develop or enhance leadership skills, learn about the latest trends, practice new tactics and network with PR professionals at all stages of their careers. A leadership position with PRSA Austin’s Board will also help young and mid-level professionals acquire the skills necessary to advance in their careers, while more seasoned professionals will have an opportunity to directly impact the future of our chapter by offering strategic vision and guidance.

Self-nominations are accepted and highly encouraged. Please note, some positions are more than a one-year commitment.

How to Apply for Board and Committee Positions

Please email the following information to current President-Elect, Michelle Hargis, at [email protected] by 11:59 p.m. on September 6, 2019:

  • Name, employer and current position
  • Number of years of professional experience
  • Desired position on the PRSA Board (or top 2-3 desired Board positions)
  • One paragraph describing why you want to be on the PRSA Austin Chapter Board

Selection Process

Upon receipt of nominations, a group of 2019 PRSA Austin Board Executive Committee members will review submissions and make final selections for the 2020 Board. Candidates will be notified in October 2019.

Per the PRSA Austin Chapter bylaws, the newly selected Executive Committee will be presented as a slate to Chapter members for official voting at the 2019 Annual Meeting. Committee chairs are appointed by the chapter officers and are not subject to approval by vote. Committee chairs and members will be notified of selection by the end of November 2019. Committee volunteers are welcome to join us throughout the year! Please submit the same information as the Board nominees.

Committees

In addition to Board of Directors’ positions, we are also looking for volunteers to serve on our various committees. Volunteers are what make our Chapter successful. Time commitment: Members of the Board can expect the following time commitments:
  • Participate in-person or by video/phone in monthly Board meetings (approx. 1 hour long).
  • Attend monthly PRSA Austin Chapter events and actively encourage support and attendance by colleagues.
  • Participate in committee meetings outside of monthly Board meetings, as appropriate, to be determined by the committee chair.

  Board Members are expected to:
  • Participate in a minimum of nine Board meetings throughout the year
  • Attend a minimum of six Chapter events
  • Participate in planning of Chapter events, including drafting promotional and program copy
  • Greet and network with attendees at Chapter events
  • Assist with recruiting new members
  • Assist with fresh content for the Chapter website
  • Assist with social media content
